Flume Gorge

The Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. The walls of Conway granite rise to a height of 70 to 90 feet and are 12 to 20 feet apart. The Flume Trail is a 2-mile loop. The Short Trail/Rim Path is closed and the only option is to complete the full 2 mile loop that takes approximately 1.5 hours. The walk includes uphill walking and lots of stairs. The boardwalk allows you to look closely at the growth of flowers, ferns and mosses found there.

Departing Hobo Junction Station in restored vintage coaches, you’ll travel south (80-minute round trip) along the banks of the Pemigewasset River on a historic rail system that dates back to the late 1800’s. In spring and summer months you may see swimmers, kayakers and fishermen, while the colors of Autumn take center stage throughout the Fall Foliage season from mid-September through late October. Once the leaves fall and the snow begins to fly, Santa joins the popular Santa Express Trains on weekends.
Betty and Barney Hill’s Incident

Address: The marker on Route 3 in Lincoln NH is positioned just across from cottage #20 at Indian Head Resort.
On September 19, 1961 while driving on US Rt 3 to their home in Portsmouth, NH, the Hills observed a large silent, hovering disk-shaped object. They awoke to find they were 35 miles south of Lincoln and of a two-hour period of “missing time”. “The Betty and Barney Hill Incident” is the first widely reported alien abduction in the United States. The state put up a site marker in 2011, fifty years after the events reportedly occurred. A movie was later made called “The UFO Incident”. More Info.
